Description

With remarkable archive film of Walsall from the 1920s through to the 1980s, this unique DVD takes a fascinating look back at life in the town in times gone by. These extraordinary films include Walsall folk out on the streets for the visit of the Prince of Wales in 1923, the celebrations to mark the 300th anniversary of the town’s charter in 1927 and the visits of Princess Margaret in 1951 and the Queen in 1962.

We also look back at some of the changes that have taken place more recently, including the last days of Walsall’s trolleybuses in 1970 and the creation of the Saddlers Centre. These unique films tell their own story, but we have also delved into the archives of the Express and Star and The Walsall Observer for first hand accounts of the events as they happened to present an intriguing look back at the Walsall of old.
