Description

A special DVD showing the end of steam on the Southern region of BR in 1967, including the mainline from London Waterloo to Bournemouth and Weymouth, taken from rare archive films. Enjoy the ‘Bournemouth Belle’ once more and see commemorative mainline steam from 2007 and the Swanage and Mid-Hants railways, with Southern engines such as Merchant Navy Class Clan Line, Tangmere and Lord Nelson, and a review of events commemorating the end of steam and interviews with those who recall the last days in July 1967 including Driver Stan Symes of Dorset fame.

There are also views in Southampton Docks which saw steam activity during the final days;  wildlife painter and railway enthusiast David Shepherd who bought engines from BR towards the end of steam; and Tony Clare of the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society, who explains how their locomotive No. 35028 Clan Line was selected and purchased in 1967.
