Edinburgh to Aberdeen

Enjoy a privileged driver’s eye view from the cab of a GNER Intercity 125 on the journey North from Edinburgh Waverley to Aberdeen. This unique view of crossing the Forth Bridge is stunning, as is crossing the Tay. An informed commentary is provided by Paul Coia and stops include Inverkeithing, Kirkcaldy, Leuchars, Dundee, Broughty Ferry, and Stonehaven.

An Intercity 125 HST is our viewing platform for this superb journey up the east coast of Scotland. The stereo sound of the original Paxman Valenta engines is a joy to the ears.

We take in the exit from Waverley through the tunnels to Haymarket, followed by the greatest railway-age edifice of all time – the Forth Bridge – and we see it from the cab!

On the very same journey we are treated to the driver’s view of Britain’s longest bridge – that over the River Tay! Naturally, with a helicopter flying alongside we also see these phenomenol structures from an aerial viewpoint. North of Dundee, the video easily lives up to its title. With the sun gradually sinking in the clear blue sky this really is the Northern Lights!
