Full description from producer:

Episode 1: The Call of the Sea. This first of three programmes sees Timothy and wife Shane set off in their Dutch barge, the Princess Matilda, from Fowey in Cornwall, heading towards Lands End and then into South Wales. By his own admission, Timothy is an unqualified and slightly nervous mariner, but Shane has every confidence in his seafaring abilities.

Episode 2: The Bogey Man Timothy. Spall s voyage around Britain continues with the latest leg of his Cornish adventure. Timothy took to the sea with wife Shane, after recovering from a serious illness and this self taught mariner now has to cope with the highly dangerous waters around Lizard Point if he is to make South Wales by winter.

Episode 3: Race Against the Tide. The concluding leg of this part of Timothy Spall s epic sea journey around the coast of Britain. He took to the waters of these islands following a serious illness and hasn t looked back (literally!). In this programme, Timothy aided and abetted by wife Shane, navigates their Durch barge around the dangerous waters of Land s End.

Episode 4: The Luck of the Irish… Sea After spending 6 months moored in Cardiff for winter it s now time to reinstate the round-Britain adventure. It s April and Captain Timothy Spall is nervous as hell. He s spent thousands on extra navigating equipment. This new leg means tackling the unpredictable Irish Sea and he ll need all the help he can get.

Episode 5: Mad About the Buoys. Tim and Shane Spall are leaving Wales and heading for England. The entry to Liverpool, amazingly a city Tim has never been to, is not a straightforward as he first thought. Skipper Spall has decided to keep out of the busy shipping lane to avoid conflict with tankers, ferries and trawlers.

Episode 6: The Bit in the Middle. Leaving Piel Island our nervous mariner heads towards Whitehaven, the last port they ll visit on the west coast of England. In this episode we see the Spalls visit three countries and the Isle of Man. First though, they have to avoid a military training session as bombs can be heard exploding on the water.

Episode 7: Scotch Mist. The Spalls are looking forward to exploring Scotland for the next year. From Troon they head into East Loch Tarbert, it s misty and the Irish Sea has turned peaty black as it merges with the sea lochs. On arrival at Tarbert this beautiful location is tinged with an air of tackiness. From the edge of the harbour wall they can hear techno music rumbling full blast as it s fun fair weekend.

Episode 8 Message In A Bottle. The actor and his wife Shane begin the final part of their journey around Britain on board their barge the Princess Matilda. At Rattray Head in north-east Scotland, they turn right and head south for the first time – but struggle to cope with the inhospitable conditions they encounter as they venture into the North Sea.

Episode 9 – Stags By The Sea. The Princess Matilda sails around north-east England, beginning in the coastal town of Amble. Tim and Shane are impressed by Northumberland’s historic buildings, including Warkworth Castle and the Church of St Lawrence, and also meet a young sailor circumnavigating Britain in the opposite direction to them.

Episode 10 – God s Own Coast. The Princess Matilda sails along the Yorkshire coast, as it continues to wind its way back to London. The Spalls explore Whitby’s links to classic horror novel Dracula, and visit Scarborough at the height of the tourist season, before arriving at Spurn Head – where they are forced to moor their boat to a buoy as they wait for the weather conditions that will enable them to continue their journey south.

Episode 11 – The Last Splash. The Spalls embark on the final leg of their journey around Britain’s coastline aboard the Princess Matilda, beginning at Shotley Marina in Suffolk.
