Founded in the sixth century by an Anglo-Saxon known as Snot, Nottingham has been called ‘The Queen of the Midlands’. A former Viking stronghold, it went on to become a Norman fortress, and was later the site from which the Crusaders embarked on their mission to the Holy Land. Nottingham is now famous for its industrial achievements, its canal network, its renowned cricket pitch at Trent Bridge and of course Brian Clough’s Forest team which twice won football’s European Cup.
