Description

This superb DVD combines cine-film, old photographs of the town and the archives of the Rugby Advertiser to paint a fascinating picture of life in Rugby in times gone by.

The very first Advertiser was published in March 1846 and the stories, the gossip, the adverts, the letters and the opinions reflected in its pages over the decades bring to life the Rugby of old, and illustrate just how much things have changed. At the start of our story, the railway is new, stagecoaches ply our main roads and horses are the main form of local transport. At the end, the town is being transformed to accommodate the motor car and we are flying off to Spain for our holidays. In between, the impact of two World Wars, good times and bad, controversy, tragedy, celebrations and landmarks in our history have all been documented by the Advertiser.

‘Looking back at Rugby’ brings together this unique archive, 100s of photographs ad some remarkable old cine-film to create this hugely entertaining record of a fascinating period in Rugby’s past.
