Description
In a season which saw Bristol City, Swindon Town and Plymouth Argyle relegated, and Exeter finish bottom of the Third Division, Rovers shone as the only successful team in the West Country. Against all odds, Rovers battled through a fixture backlog to reach the Play-Offs – and after beating Crewe, Wembley beckoned for the second time in the club’s history. A record crowd for the Second Division Play-Off Final, 59,175, saw Rovers play the better football, but lose 2-1 to Huddersfield.
