Andover: The Way We Were
This fascinating journey through time combines old photos, cine film, modern footage, and stories from the archives of the Hampshire Chronicle and the Andover Advertiser to present a nostalgic look back at bygone Andover.

Covering the period from the 1830s to the 1960s, it shows the changes that have taken place in that period and recalls significant events in the town's past such as, the coming of the railway, the riots of 1830 and 1914, and the dramatic impact of two world wars on the town. It also provides unique glimpses of many aspects of everyday life in old Andover, including, the days when stagecoaches rattled along High Street; the heyday and decline of Weyhill Fair; when the public baths were in the Town River, next to the gasworks!; and how the people of Andover celebrated the jubilee of Queen Victoria, VE Day, and the Coronation of Elizabeth II - they certainly knew how to party!

We also discover why Australian and British soldiers once fought a pitched battle in Andover; why the town workhouse was once the focus of a national scandal; and the part Andover played in D Day. Finally, the DVD looks at the effects of the Town Development Act, which made Andover an overspill town for London. The first newcomers moved into their house in Floral Way in September 1964, welcomed by the Mayor and Mayoress. Many more would follow and Andover would be transformed. But the DVD also shows that, despite these changes, 'old Andover' hasn't been lost completely.

Narrated by award winning actor, Howard Ellison.
