We are pleased to announce that we will shortly be commencing work on an exciting new project with the railway author Mike Oakley, based loosely on a book he wrote over a decade ago entitled ‘Bristol Railway Stations.’
Mike lives in Filton, a suburban town just to the north of Bristol, which is of course famous for its aviation heritage. As we are based just a few miles away in Yate, we have become acquaintances over the years, yet we had never worked together in any capacity until the summer of 2017, when he provided valuable support and additional information during production of our ‘Branch Lines of Cornwall’ DVD. It was discussed at that time that should the opportunity arise we would make a film together, and that is exactly what we agreed earlier this year.
At the dawn of this new century, 1st Take produced two railway titles for the first time, in collaboration with Avon Valley Railway. ‘Railways Of Bristol’ focussed on the history of the lines and stations which were situated in the inner part of the city, while ‘Steam Around Bristol’ ventured into the suburbs and surrounding towns. The idea was that we could provide a fresh appraisal of the situation, with new archive material, updated information and fresh location film. To this end, Dave Rogers of 1st Take visited Mike last week, and returned with a completed script and a full range of archive photographs.
Filming is scheduled to begin in early September, and it is something of a relief to have such a project on our doorstep after venturing relatively far from home in recent years! Watch this space for updates!
