Departing from Westbury Up Sidings on a fine early-autumn day in September 2019, with 1,000 tonnes of ballast in tow, we are on board 70812 for the run through to Hinksey Yard, a distance of 65 miles. The route is as expected, running via Trowbridge, Thingley Junction, Chippenham, Swindon, Didcot West Curve Junction, Appleford and Culham. The entire journey is shown.

Westbury Yard to Hinksey Yard via Swindon and Didcot North Jct.

Departing from Westbury Up Sidings, this is the first part of the journey and with 1,000 tonnes of ballast in tow, we are on board 70812 for the run through to Hinksey Yard, a distance of 65 miles. The route is as expected, running via Trowbridge, Thingley Junction, Chippenham, Swindon, Didcot West Curve Junction, Appleford and Culham. The entire journey is shown.

Colas Rail Freight operates 17 Class 70 locomotives and this is thought to be the first cab ride filmed on board one of them.

Filmed on a fine early-autumn day in September 2019, the loco and ambient sounds are recorded with a special ‘thrash-cam’ in the back cab.
