Full description from the producer:
Cab Ride: Carlisle to Northallerton via the Tyne Valley, Gateshead, Sunderland and Hartlepool.
This is a cab ride on board Class 37/7, 37884 ‘Cepheus’ from Carlisle to Northallerton via the Tyne Valley and Durham Coast. Operated by ROG, the working here was the return leg of a unit move in Scotland, routed ‘the long way round’ as part of a route refresher/route learner.
Filmed in August 2021, we start from the centre road at Carlisle, running via the scenic Tyne Valley line with its fine signal boxes and picturesque stations. Avoiding Newcastle, we are routed via Gateshead and then share the lines of the Tyne and Wear Metro towards Sunderland, passing many of the Class 994 ‘Metrocars’. Continuing along the scenic Durham coast, we pass Hartlepool and a weave our way across to Yarm with its impressive viaduct, finishing at Northallerton, on the station avoider.
This is a fascinating route, steeped in railway history, with a number of freight-only curves and a Class 37 along the T&W Metro section is incredibly rare!
The entire 118-mile journey is shown. Includes maps, on-screen captions and minimal narration. A thrash cam in the back cab records the loco at work and ambient sounds.
