Description
A Cab Ride over the Ely to Norwich line by Class 170 DMU, recorded in 2009. The entire 68 mile, 77 minute journey from Cambridge to Norwich is featured, showing all the now closed signal boxes, the level crossing gates and of course, all the semaphore signals which have also now gone. There is a highly nostalgic close up on the ‘lost’ nine signal boxes.
Full description from the producer:
In 2009 our cameras were given unprecedented access to the nine signal boxes on the Ely to Norwich line. Threatened with closure ‘in the future’ throughout the winter, summer and autumn, the operation of traditional signalling and manual level crossings was recorded in detail and in 2010 a DVD was released entitled ‘Railway Signalling in Anglia: Ely to Norwich’. During the making of the original DVD, a complete cab ride journey was filmed between Cambridge and Norwich on a Class 170 DMU and excerpts from it were used to show the approaches to stations from the drivers point of view. Now, four years later, following the closure of all nine signal boxes, an additional DVD is available – a cab ride over the entire line.
Using previously unseen footage, the entire 68 mile 77 minute journey from Cambridge to Norwich is featured, showing all the now closed signal boxes, the level crossing gates and of course, all the semaphore signals which have also now gone. To go one step better, the whole lot was recorded in stunning high definition! We may well have lost another piece of railway history but it’s all been recorded in super detail and is available on Blu-ray disc. * At the end of the Cab Ride there is footage of all nine signal boxes following closure plus the new signals and automatic level crossing barriers, filmed in April 2013.
