Helped by some delightful old photographs, and the Barton Hill History Group’s knowledge and enthusiasm, your tour is packed with highlights.The Great Western Cotton Factory on Barton Hill was once the biggest in the South of England. Its emergence in the 1840s, following the opening of the Feeder Canal, transformed the area from a rural backwater into a seething mass of industry and terraced streets. You will see Schools, Shops and Pubs as they were before the tower blocks came. There are superb features on road and rail transport, and Lawrence Hill before it was transformed by Bristol’s biggest roundabout.  Not forgetting the tales of the Rat Catcher!
